Recommendations
Introduction
Section titled “Introduction”Although the application is designed to support a number of different types of storage both for source images and backups these are the recommendations for optimal processing.
Image Cards
Section titled “Image Cards”Most types and sizes of cards are supported however the application has been tested using SD Cards (formatted using FAT and exFAT filesystems) and CF Express Type B cards (formatted in exFAT)..
Assuming a recent iPhone (or especially iPad) is being used then cards with fast read speeds (such as UHS-II SD cards and CF Express Type B) will perform better.
It is recommended that the cards are formatted in camera before any photographs are taken. SD Cards over 32GB in size or CF Express Type B cards can be registered and will be remembered from session to session.
With some camera makes (Fujifilm has been tested) once one card of 64GB or more has been registered any card over 64GB in size from any camera will be rememebered and there will be no further need for the registration process. As soon as any of these cards are connected to the application they will be immediately scanned and thumbnail images displayed in a grid.
Backup SSDs
Section titled “Backup SSDs”It is recommended that empty SSDs formatted in apfs are used for backing up image files. SSDs with existing files can be used but directories with the names DCIM and BACKUP must not exist in the root directory (these directories will be created during the registration process).
If there are large numbers of files in the root directory this will slow down the process of recognizing the storage.
Using fast SSDs connected with USB4 cables and connected to a recent iPad pro with a USB4 port will ensure the fastest backup process.
