Future Plans / Current Limitations / Potential Problems

Limitations of the current version of PhotoImport (v1.0) include:

  • Images from cameras and 32GB cards cannot be exported to other applications until they have been cached locally. Cards over 64GB in size do not have this limitation. Images from these larger card can be exported directly from card to other applications.

  • If long running processes such as caching large numbers of image files or backing up large caches are cancelled or aborted the procedure must be started from the beginning. It is intended that restart logic will be added.

  • The application includes a number of checks to make sure functions that involve moving image files complete successfully. It is intended that optional future checks will be added to verify the results every time an image has been moved. These checks will be optional as they are likely to be resource intensive and time consuming.

Future plans and enhancements:

  • Metadata display is currently very limited. Only camera make, camera model and the timestamp for image capture are displayed on the full screen image view. It is intended that a future version of PhotoImport will have the option to display all known metadata.

  • AF point and face/subject detection. It is intended that the reported AF location including any face/subject detection areas will be optionally displayed on full screen image views.

  • Full screen image views originate from either the JPEG file or preview image stored in the RAW file. Future versions of the application will have the option to generate full screen images by converting raw data.

Potential Problems

  • Occasionally when testing with the Fujifilm X-H2S the camera has become unresponsive when trying to connect. It won’t power down until the battery is removed. The problem has happened rarely. It is difficult to replicate and does not appear to cause data loss or corruption. As soon as the battery is removed and replaced everything works properly. AI has recommended that the “Communication USB Power Supply/Comm” setting is changed from “AUTO” to “USB Power Supply OFF/Comms ON” to minimize the chances of getting the problem. Since making the change the problem has not recurred.
